The best transition from summer to fall doesn't happen overnight. You don't need to pack away everything summery and immediately fill your home with pumpkins, orange leaves and Halloween decorations.
Instead, think of early fall as a gradual change in color, texture, flowers, lighting and accessories. By keeping much of your existing décor and changing just a few elements, your home can move naturally from the lightness of summer into the warmth of autumn.
1. Start with your summer décor
Before buying anything new, look at what you already have.
Many summer decorating basics transition beautifully into fall. White and cream accessories, clear glass, baskets, natural wood, greenery and neutral linens can stay right where they are.
Instead of replacing everything, ask yourself: What could I change that would make this room feel cozier?
Often, the answer is surprisingly simple. A new flower arrangement, warmer throw pillows, candles and a few natural elements may be all you need.
2. Give your favorite vase a fall makeover
You don't necessarily need a new vase every time the season changes. Instead, change what surrounds it.
A clear glass vase that held bright summer flowers can take on an entirely different personality when filled with autumn foliage.
This is one of my favorite principles for seasonal decorating:
Keep the foundation. Change the details.
It's also the philosophy behind Glass Wrappings - using decorative elements to transform glassware for different seasons and occasions rather than starting over (and buying new) each time.

3. Add candlelight
As summer ends and evenings get darker earlier, lighting becomes part of the seasonal transition. Candles immediately make a room feel warmer.
Try grouping candleholders of different heights on a dining table, mantel or console. LED candles are especially useful when you want the look of candlelight for several hours without having to monitor an open flame.
Glass candleholders also reflect the light beautifully, adding another layer of warmth.

4. Continue the transition using the "one in, one out" method
For every fall item you introduce, remove one distinctly summery item:
- Exchange a beach-themed accessory for a wooden bowl filled with apples
- Replace a bright summer pillow with a rust velvet pillow
-
Put away a tropical arrangement and replace it with fall flowers
The room changes gradually instead of suddenly becoming cluttered.
5. Let your home evolve with the seasons
When you're ready to transition your home from summer into fall, think:
KEEP: glassware, neutral accessories, baskets, wood, greenery and basic furniture.
CHANGE: flowers, pillows, throws, table linens and a few decorative accents.
ADD: candles, autumn branches, berries, pumpkins and warmer textures.
That's really all it takes, and that's the vision behind Glass Wrappings – change with the season without changing everything!
